Pomotroid – Pomodoro Technique for Practicing Discipline
The Pomodoro Technique, created in the late 1980s, aims to help you learn discipline and help you not waste time when fulfilling your obligations. It consists of alternating active segments and breaks in strictly limited time periods, usually 25 minutes of work, followed by a 5-minute break. This is repeated three or four times, followed by a longer pause. However, constantly looking at the clock and checking how much time has passed not only quickly becomes tiresome, but also becomes a waste of time in itself, which is counter-productive.
Pomotroid is a free program for Windows 7, 8, 10, Linux and macOS that will allow you to stay fresh and focused using the Pomodoro technique.
How Does Pomotroid Work?
Pomotroid is a portable program. This means there is no installation and all you have to do is download and run it. When you run it, a nice and modern UI will appear dominated by a timer set to 25 minutes, and all you have to do is start it and begin working or studying.
As you can guess, Pomotroid is an extremely simple program, because it’s basically a stopwatch. In the settings, you can set how long the work period, short and long rests will last and how many repetitions there will be. When each segment is completed, you will be notified by system notification and a sound. You’ll also be able to set the program to be placed above all other programs, so you can always keep an eye on it.
This is all that Pomotroid has to offer and honestly, we love its simplicity. When a program focuses on one thing, there’s no need to add options just to show off that they’re there. However, one option we would like to see is the ability to choose a song from the computer for the sound signal, but this is not such a big complaint.
