WEBTOON – Reading Comics on Your Mobile Phone
If you’re a fan of comic books, you probably regularly buy the latest releases from newsstands. The problem is that the “latest releases” are often several months late. Unfortunately, it is not rare that a certain comic simply stops appearing on our market, not to mention that most comics never reach us.
WEBTOON is a free app for Android and iOS that will give you access to a huge archive of comics that you can read for free.
How Does WEBTOON Work?
Once you install and run WEBTOON, the first thing you need to do is create a free account or sign in with your Google account. When you enter the application, you will see a simple user interface, which is similar to those we see on blogs or news websites, that is, you will get suggestions of comics divided into categories such as popular, drama, romance and so on.
As we said before, WEBTOON app is for reading comics. This means that all comics are optimized for reading on a phone. The images are large enough to see the drawings nicely, zooming is possible, and the panels are placed one below the other so that scrolling is possible. When you start reading, the comic will automatically be saved in the MY section, and it will remember where you left off. Comic downloads are possible, but only one episode per account, and it will be automatically deleted after 30 days.
The archive of comics that WEBTOON contains is huge, but you won’t find the most popular ones like One-Punch Man, One Piece, Naruto and so on. This isn’t such a big problem because you can read these comics for free on many websites, but since they are the most popular and most comic fans read at least some of them, it would be nice to have them here as well.
Reading comics on WEBTOON is free, but there are some restrictions. First of all, the app shows ads, but they’re not that annoying, they don’t interfere with reading, and it was easy for us to ignore them. In addition to this, certain comics will only allow you to read one episode per day, and you can remove this if you pay.
What we didn’t like at all is that there is no option to pay and unlock all the options, that is, all the comics, instead the payment is done through tokens. You buy tokens with money, and then with these tokens you buy access to certain comics, and if you have both Android and iOS, you will have to buy separate tokens for each operating system, even when using the same account.
WEBTOON Will Bring an Impressive Amount of Comics to Your Pocket
WEBTOON is a solid app, and the amount of comics it contains is impressive, even though it doesn’t have the most popular ones. The restrictions it contains are not so great, mainly because the vast majority of comics are completely free, and the ads are not that annoying. During use, we did not encounter any problems or bugs, so WEBTOON gets our recommendation.
