NanaZip – A Modern File Compression Tool

NanaZip – A Modern File Compression Tool

NanaZip is a free, fast, and open-source fork of the 7-Zip archiver, featuring a modern user interface and better integration with Windows 10/11 operating systems.

NanaZip Features

NanaZip is based on the same codebase as 7-Zip, which means it offers the same compression strength. The application supports all formats that 7-Zip does. Supported compression formats include: 7z, ZIP, GZIP, BZIP2, XZ, and TAR. Data can also be extracted from: RAR, ISO, WIM, ARJ, LZH, CAB, and other formats.

This application retains other useful features of its older predecessor. Archived files can be password-protected or encrypted using the AES-256 standard. Multiple compression levels are available. Archives can be split into several parts of custom size. Multiple files and folders can be compressed in one pass.

NanaZip offers improved support for the WinUI context menu introduced in Windows 11. Commands are more visible, neatly grouped, and aligned with the new Windows interface. Transitions are more attractive and fluid thanks to animations. The app can be accessed from File Explorer via right-click.

The application is fully compliant with Microsoft Store standards. It installs and updates directly from the store, eliminating the need for manual downloads of installation files. Compared to 7-Zip, it also offers improved Unicode support, ensuring better display of file names in various languages.

NanaZip easily archives and extracts files that are several gigabytes in size. It can open ISO files as well as installation packages in MSI and CAB formats. The application also works via the command line (7z.exe). Multithreading is supported – allowing parallel use of multiple processor cores for better performance.

NanaZip Use Cases

NanaZip was developed to modernize 7-Zip without compromising performance. It is a stable application, but if you’re using an older version of Windows, you might be better off installing 7-Zip. The community is active, and updates are frequent.

The source code is fully open to the public and can be customized according to user preferences. Command line functionality will be especially appreciated by IT professionals due to its support for automated workflows. NanaZip is ideal for users who want the power and efficiency of 7-Zip, but in a visually and functionally modern package.
