Audacium – Free Audio Editing Software

Audacium is a free and open-source software for audio recording and editing, which is a fork of the popular audio editor Audacity. It is available for Windows, macOS, and Linux.

Audacium was created in response to users who were particularly concerned about their privacy after MuseGroup acquired Audacity. The program is primarily written in C++. It retains all the main functionalities of its popular predecessor. The user interface is similar, but the menus are simpler.

Audacium records audio in real-time and allows playback with speed control and pitch adjustments. Using a spectrogram, it provides a detailed analysis of the frequency content of an audio track to remove unwanted noise and interference. For greater precision in editing, sound waves can be zoomed in.

Audacium supports automatic audio processing, including batch processing of multiple files at once. It can process audio in real-time, significantly speeding up workflow. It also offers enhanced support for VST  (Virtual Studio Technology) plugins.

Audacium works with multiple audio channels simultaneously. It features advanced tools for trimming, deleting, cutting, and merging audio files. The Undo and Redo commands are available multiple times, which is useful for correcting mistakes.

The software supports the most commonly used compressed and uncompressed audio formats, including FLAC, WAV, MP3, AIFF, M4A, and OGG. It allows conversion between these formats. Audacium includes advanced filters (normalization, compression, reverb) and effects, as well as equalizers, noise reduction, time stretching, and other audio editing tools.

Using Audacium

Audacium is characterized by speed, privacy, and a clean codebase. It does not collect user data. It includes all the necessary tools for both amateur and professional audio editing. It performs well when processing long audio tracks and those with a large number of layers.

Audacium has avoided the controversial changes introduced by Audacity. Unnecessary code parts have been removed, making it faster and more stable. It can also run on older computers. The program does not require an internet connection to function. Not all plugins compatible with Audacity are supported.
