PasswordGenerator – A Simple Password Generator
If you often need to come up with a password, either for work or you simply don’t want to use one and the same password for all the online services you log in to, we suggest you try PasswordGenerator. It is a free program for Windows 7, 8, 10, Linux, macOS, and Android that will, as the name suggests, help you generate a password quickly and easily.
How Does PasswordGenerator Work?
PasswordGenerator is a portable program. This means that there is no installation, you just need to download, unzip and run it. When you start it, you will see a simple menu with only a few options. It is important to note that this is not a password manager, so it cannot be used to store and manipulate passwords, but only to generate them.
We liked that the program is extremely easy to use. In the main menu, we have five parameters. The first is the length of the password and here we can choose between 6 and 35 characters from the drop-down list. Honestly, we’d prefer there to be no limit on password length, but this isn’t such a big complaint.
The following four parameters specify the types of characters to be used when generating the password. You can use uppercase and lowercase letters, numbers, and special characters, and you can freely choose which of these will be used when generating a password.
What we particularly liked and what we have never seen before with such programs is that in the settings you can define what is meant by lowercase and uppercase letters, what are numbers, and what are special characters. We also liked the option to not use characters that look similar when generating a password, for example, O and 0 (uppercase o and number zero) or I and l (uppercase i and lowercase L).
Another convenient option is the history of generated passwords, which you can save directly from the program as a text document. The small complaint we have here is that, apart from the password, there is no other information, such as the date the password was generated, so navigating can be tricky.
PasswordGenerator Is a Simple but Excellent Program
PasswordGenerator is a simple program that does one thing, but it does it really well. The additional settings it offers set it apart from the competition, and the criticisms we’ve made aren’t that big and most users won’t even notice them. During use, we did not encounter any problems or bugs, so PasswordGenerator gets our recommendation.
