Threads – A New Social Network Similar to Twitter

When the famous billionaire, owner of Tesla and SpaceX, Elon Musk, bought the Twitter company last year, the news quickly spread through the media, with the help of journalist Matt Taibbi, of the incredible level of censorship that this social network implemented. It was shown here that moderators had the ability to fully influence whether a certain post or the entire account would be popular, whether it would be shown only to followers, whether it would be completely hidden, and many other ways in which they influenced the opinion of all Twitter users.

This, of course, did not go down well with many globally, so Meta, the company that owns Facebook, Instagram, and WhatsApp, saw an opportunity to enter the micro-blogging market and decided to create a new social network Threads which is very similar to Twitter. The new Threads social network is available on Android and iOS.

How Does Threads Work?

Threads is a combination of Instagram and Twitter, i.e. posts in the form of pictures and videos that we have on Instagram and messages of limited length, here up to 500 characters, with the possibility to link more messages in the thread, that we have on Twitter. With this in mind, it is not surprising that the user interface resembles a combination of these two social networks.

Threads - how interface looks

As far as options go, we have nothing new here. Everything you have already seen on other social networks, you will find here. You will be able to follow other users, leave likes and comments, post, correspond, make the account private or public, and more.

Since Meta owns both Threads and Instagram, and the full name of this app is: Threads, an Instagram app, you will be able to log in with your Instagram account. In addition to this, you will be able to transfer your followers, username, list of blocked accounts, and other information from Instagram.

Why Haven’t Threads Appeared in the European Union Yet?

The European Union recently introduced new regulations regarding user privacy, how their private information can be collected, and what can be done with that information. As the Meta company itself announced, for now, Threads will not appear in the European Union due to potential problems with EU regulations. This does not inspire confidence, especially if we consider the history of Facebook.

Threads Is Not a New Social Network

Bearing in mind that Threads does not bring anything new to the table, there is no possibility to use it through the website, but only through the application, we can say that this is not a new social network, but only an extension of the possibilities of Instagram. Since it does not exist in the European Union, due to strict EU regulations on user privacy, it also does not inspire confidence. Like all social networks, Threads is free to use, and you pay with your time, data, etc. So who does not care much about privacy and likes to try all the new things, go ahead and try it. 🙂
