Okular is a free, multi-platform, open-source document viewer application created by the KDE community. It’s available in versions for Windows, macOS, and Linux.

What Can Okular Do?

The user interface is simple. The tools are well-organized. As a result, this application is easy to get used to and requires no additional training. Okular is a flexible program with numerous capabilities. With it, you can open PDF, PS (PostScript), CHM (Microsoft Compiled HTML Help File Format) or Markdown documents, comics, e-books, view images in various formats such as TIFF, JPG, PNG, etc. It can quickly open large documents without system overload.

Okular has advanced document viewing options, such as zooming, rotation, full-screen view, multi-page display, and the ability to customize page layouts. PDF documents are viewed with layers and forms. Forms can be filled out and sent directly from the application. It supports displaying and verifying digital signatures in PDF documents. Okular also opens encrypted documents, provided you enter the password.

Text search based on document parts or phrases is fast and precise. Results are clearly marked and easily accessible. Users can add bookmarks to easily find desired parts of the document. They can also add comments, highlight text parts, underline, or draw desired shapes. These annotations are saved in the open document itself, making them accessible to others when shared. Okular can also read entire written documents or parts of them aloud.
