Over the past year, Netflix attempted to attract a new audience by releasing a few free titles in certain world regions. Now American giant is extending this experiment to the users worldwide with a more extensive catalog of free titles.
What will this offer look like
Netflix is offering “Stranger Things,” “Murder Mystery,” “Elite,” “Bird Box,” “When They See Us,” “The Two Popes,” “Our Planet,” and “Grace and Frankie” free to users in over 200 countries where it is operational. With the series, only the first episode is free, after which you have to pay a subscription to continue watching. Movies are entirely free, but you will be shown 30 seconds ads that you can skip after 5 seconds, similar to Youtube.
“We’re looking at different marketing promotions to attract new members and give them a great Netflix experience”
– said officials from Netflix.
To watch free movies and TV shows from Netflix free catalog, users don’t need a subscription or to be logged in. The free viewing is accessible only through web browsers, Android users can watch with mobile browsers, and this service is not available for iOS users.
This is not the first time Netflix is testing free services
Netflix has already tested making titles free for users from America and India. In India, several experiments have explored making the service available for a few cents for the first month and are currently testing several affordable plans. The company has not shared how long it plans to run this experiment.
