How to Add a Footnote in Google Docs

Footnotes are a convenient way to further clarify a particular term or phrase, without the need for that explanation to be part of the text. When you create a footnote in Google Docs, an indicator will appear at the bottom of the page with a number attached to the word or phrase that the footnote explains. You can add an unlimited number of footnotes.

  2. Place the cursor where you want to add a footnote
  3. Click on Insert
  4. Click on Footnote
  5. Write a footnote
  6. At the spot where you placed the cursor, a number will appear indicating the number of the footnote
