DesktopDynamic – Video as Desktop Wallpaper
Have you ever wanted to have a video instead of a picture on your desktop? If your answer is yes, this is the right program for you. DesktopDynamic is a free program for Windows 10 and 11 that will allow you to set a video as your desktop wallpaper.
How Does DesktopDynamic Work?
DesktopDynamic is a portable program, which means that there is no installation, you just need to download and run it. When you start it, the image on your desktop will automatically be replaced with a video that is in the style of Japanese anime cartoons.
If you look at the image above this paragraph, you will notice that instead of the program menu, we put an image of a text document. The reason for this is the fact that DesktopDynamic does not contain any menu, and you manage the program by changing the parameters of the config.ini file, and the image above is that file.
As you can see, there are only three parameters. The first parameter is source and here is the name of the video file you want to use as the wallpaper. Supported formats are MOV and MP4, which isn’t much of a choice. The next parameter is volume and here you determine the volume of the video. The last parameter is mode, and with it, you determine what will be displayed on the desktop, in addition to video, it can also be the content of a URL that contains a video.
In addition to the config.ini file, you can also manage the program using the DesktopDynamic icon located in the System Tray (lower right corner of the screen, next to the clock). Right-clicking on this icon brings up a menu with four options. These options are the option to shut down the program, the option to start the program together with Windows, the option to pause, that is, continue playing the video, and the option to mute, that is, unmute the sound.
If We Disregard Terrible Program Controls, We Really Liked DesktopDynamic
Honestly, the controls of DesktopDynamic are terrible. The lack of user interface is a huge minus and we cannot ignore it. Changing the way a program works using a configuration file is not uncommon, but this is usually reserved for advanced or less important functions. This is the first time we’ve seen this be the primary way to control the program.
However, despite this, the program works perfectly and without errors. If you can overlook the lack of a user interface, we believe that you will really like DesktopDynamic.
