MediBang Paint – Free Image Editing Program
There are many good image editing programs, and Photoshop is the most famous and popular in this category. However, Photoshop is a program that you have to pay for and there is no free version available. Fortunately, there are many free programs, similar to Photoshop, both in their functions and in the user interface. One such program is MediBang Paint.
MediBang Paint is a free image editing program for Windows 7, 8, 10, macOS, Android, and iOS and is a great free replacement for Photoshop. In this review, we will focus on the desktop version, but most of what we say will also apply to smartphones.
How does MediBang Paint work?
When you install MediBang Paint, the first thing you need to do is make a free account. This is not mandatory and the program can be used without registration, but by registering you get access to the Cloud service and many features that are only available when you are registered, so we suggest you do this.
When you run the program you will see a user interface similar to the one we have in Photoshop. In the middle is the canvas on which you draw or edit an image, on the right is a menu with Layers and a project map, and on the left are brushes and drawing tools. However, not everything is the same as in Photoshop, therefore MediBang Paint contains a tutorial that will show you all the basic options of the program and teach you to use them.
As for the tools themselves, you’ll find all the ones we’re used to in Photoshop. Among them are brushes of various shapes, an eraser tool, a painting tool, a tool for drawing geometric shapes, and others. Still, Photoshop contains more options, but no essential tools have been left out. In addition to drawing tools, special attention is paid to text editing. MediBang Paint contains a large number of already installed fonts, and you can download new fonts from the Cloud.
What sets MediBang Paint apart is the focus on editing images drawn in the style of Japanese manga comics. There are several options specifically designed for editing pictures and comics in this style. One thing that caught our eye is adjusting the background layer to be 8-bit or even 1-bit, which is great if you are making a manga comic in a retro style.
Free Image Editing Program and Replacement for Photoshop
MediBang Paint is a great program and got our recommendation. If you know how to use Photoshop, you will easily find your way here, and if you are a beginner, the tutorial in the program itself will help you learn to use it. The options it contains are a bit poorer than in Photoshop, but we don’t have any special objections here either, as all the most necessary options are available.

Thanks for the Info. MediaBang Paint looks interesting, in particular on PC platforms. I tried it on my XP-Pen Artist 12 2nd generation display drawing tablet, and it works well.
