Portmaster – An Excellent Privacy and Security Guard
Portmaster is a free program for Windows 10, 11, and Linux that offers better insight and control over what is happening on your computer. The program serves as a kind of Firewall, which can also serve as an excellent replacement for Windows Defender.
How Does Portmaster Work?
Portmaster is an open-source program. This means that its code is publicly available and anyone with enough knowledge can download it and check if the program really does what it advertises. This is why we believe so much in the claims of open-source programs while being skeptical when it comes to others.
The main function of Portmaster is to monitor your computer’s network activities, that is, what programs are sending and receiving over the Internet. When you install and run the program, you will see a beautiful, modern, and well-organized user interface, which is divided into three parts.
The first part, which takes up the least space, is the toolbar on the left. Next to it is a list of all programs that Portmaster monitors, and when you click on a program from this list, all the information related to that program will appear on the right.
You will find a lot in this data. You’ll be able to see everything from the program’s name and its location on your hard drive to its connection history, where you’ll find information about the domains the program has connected to, which parts of it communicate with domains outside the local network, and so on.
You will be able to sort all data using a large number of filters, as well as completely block detected activities. Also, you can choose one of three operating modes, which are simple, advanced, and developer mode. Each mode displays a different amount of information.
Portmaster also includes a paid version, and the main thing it brings is VPN, which is called SPN (Safing Privacy Network), as well as the ability to use technical support, install programs on multiple computers, and more.

Portmaster is an excellent Firewall that offers so much for free. It is suitable for both beginners and more advanced users. What you get by purchasing the premium version is useful, but it is by no means necessary for the quality protection of your privacy and security. During use, we did not encounter any problems or bugs, so Portmaster gets our recommendation.
