Screen recording used to be a real challenge. To do this, you had to use complicated tools or pay an expert to do it for you.

Fortunately, screen recording tools have become simpler over the years. Today we have at our disposal several impressive applications that can record everything that happens on our screen completely free of charge and without any frustrating restrictions.

We have selected three, in our opinion, the best free screen recording applications on Android, which we believe will satisfy the needs of every user.

Integrated screen recorder on Android

Before we throw ourselves into the top list, we give a place of honorable mention to Android’s integrated screen recorder. From Android version 11 and onwards, along with some older phone models, a screen recording option comes packaged with the Android operating system.

The application has limited settings and can hardly be compared with the applications from our list. Still, this option is available to everyone and will satisfy many users’ most basic needs, especially those with not-so-high expectations.

You launch the application from the Quick Settings menu, and the screen recording starts automatically. The only commands available are to stop recording and turn audio recording on or off.

Although it does not have any advanced options, the quality of the recording is excellent, and we believe that it will meet the standards of the largest number of users.

Screen Recorder

With an extremely simple and easy user interface and almost completely ad-free, Screen Recorder is a screen recording application that we would recommend to most users.

This application can record in HD quality with a maximum of 60 frames per second. It comes with support for sound recording, along with the option to switch to a microphone. The app also allows users to add logos, images and text, and even turn on and record from the front camera. Screen Recorder also comes with basic video processing tools such as Video Trimmer, Notes Maker and more.

Since this is a completely free application, which is very discreet with its advertisement, we have to admit that we are impressed. While there aren’t any of the more advanced options, none of those options we particularly missed.

AZ Screen Recorder

AZ Screen Recorder is probably the most famous free screen recording app for Android. It offers a variety of customizations and settings for recording. Interestingly, the application offers a plugin that you can install and further expand its functionality.

When recording, you can adjust the resolution from 240p to 1080p, bitrates ranging from 1 Mbps to 12 Mbps and the frame rate between 24FPS and 60FPS, as well as the option to record internal or external sound.

You can edit the video you record, and the options we have here go far beyond the basics. In addition to the usual cutting and trimming of the video, and adding frames, stickers and text, there are quite a number of advanced options, which you will further expand if you install the AZ plugin. You can add different audio files, merge multiple videos, add effects and other options.

AZ Screen Recorder has a simple user interface that helps us navigate all the options it has. The application is very easy to use because everything is clearly marked, so even beginners will easily find their way around it.

Google Play Games screen recording function

Although there is a lot of competition on the market among screen recording apps, unfortunately, all we have tried (Mobizen Screen Recorder, MNML Screen Recorder, RecMe Free Screen Recorder and others) are similar to the ones we listed. If you download any of them, you probably won’t regret it.

For the third recommendation, we didn’t want to give you an app that is too similar to the previous two, so we opted for the screen recording option that comes with Google Play Games.

To use it, you don’t have to install anything. It is intended to be used for recording video games. You start recording directly from the game, and all settings are automatically set for optimal recording in this environment.

It is interesting that, although the only way to start recording is from a video game, if you don’t stop recording and exit the game, the recording will continue, so it is technically possible to record outside of games, but we do not recommend this.

The biggest criticism we have is that certain functions that the application has are different depending on the country from which you download the application. Besides that, this is probably the best option if you are only interested in recording video games.
