Antivirus applications protect our mobile devices from viruses, malware and Internet surveillance. However, the really good ones are usually not free. Free apps of this type generally keep the most important options for the paid version, and it often happens that the ads are so annoying and pop up from all sides that the application is almost impossible to use.
Fortunately, there are also those applications that try to provide the user with a service worthy of the phone’s memory, even in the free version. That’s why we’ve made a list of the top 3 best free antivirus apps for Android.
Sophos Intercept X for Mobile
Sophos Intercept X for Mobile is a free antivirus app for Android and iOS. It allows you to scan files and already installed applications, and it is possible to set up automatic scanning at certain time intervals. The reason why we put this application in the first place is the fact that in addition to the options we expect from an antivirus application, it also contains additional options for protecting the device.
The application contains options for blocking unwanted calls and filtering SMS messages, so you can easily protect yourself from this type of spam. It also contains an option to scan and verify QR codes. If you try to go to a potentially dangerous link or download an infected file, the application will warn you of the danger.
Sophos also contains options in case you lose your device or if it is stolen. With these options, you can delete all data from your phone, log out of all apps, send a message to your phone, and use GPS to find the current location of your device.
The free version of the application shows ads, but they are not too boring, so we have no objections here. The only complaint we have is the organization of the application. The user interface looks nice, but it’s not very functional. It took us a while to find all the options it offers and in this aspect, Sophos can be better.
Despite this objection, Sophos is the antivirus that we liked the most and which will be the best option for most users. In addition to all the most important features, it offers additional options, which can replace several other applications and all of which work very well.
Android and iOS
Avast Antivirus is a free antivirus app for Android and iOS. In addition to options for finding and removing viruses and potentially dangerous applications, this antivirus offers a number of additional options that will help you stay safe and maintain your privacy online.
With Avast Antivirus, you can protect your photos, contacts, and other confidential information using a pin code or fingerprint scanner. Also, if you try to go to a dangerous website or download an infected file, you will receive a warning. The application also offers the possibility of using a VPN with which you can protect yourself from online tracking or targeted advertising.
Unlike the previous application, Avast Antivirus is extremely easy to use. All options are neatly placed in the main menu, where they are easy to access, and the user interface is beautiful and modern. The app displays ads, but they are tolerable, so we can overlook this.
Android and iOS
Bitdefender Antivirus is a free antivirus application for Android. As for the options it contains, here you will find only the most basic ones. There are no options to check the links you open or files you download, nor the option to protect confidential information or VPN.
Then why did we choose this app? Because the function of scanning and removing viruses and dangerous applications is the best we have come across. In addition, during the scan, Bitdefender Antivirus slows down the phone the least, so much so that we didn’t even notice that it was scanning in the background until we received a notification that the scan have finished. We cannot claim this, not only for the previous two applications from this list but for all the applications we have tried.
Another thing that this antivirus can boast about is that it consumes very little battery, so the basic function that all antiviruses perform, scanning and removing viruses, is by far the best here and we don’t have enough words of praise for it.
The user interface looks decent, and navigating the app is extremely easy, mostly because there aren’t too many options. Ads that the app shows are subtle and we hope that this will not change in the future.
The main reason why we didn’t put Bitdefender Antivirus in the first place is that it does not contain any additional options, which are, for a good reason, important to many users. However, if you don’t need them, we suggest you try this antivirus first.
