Language Tool – Writing Without Errors
Grammar can be quite complicated and this applies to all languages. Even when we write in our native language, it often happens that we do not know the correct grammatical form to use in a sentence, not to mention when writing in a foreign language.
There are plenty of programs that check our grammar, probably the most famous among them is Grammarly. The problem is that these programs mostly focus on English and do not offer many options in the free version.
Language Tool is a free plugin for Google Chrome and Mozilla Firefox browsers that will check your spelling and grammar and give you tips on how to correct them.
How Does the Language Tool Work?
If you have ever used a grammar correction program, such as Grammarly, you will immediately know how the Language Tool works. When you install the plugin, its icon will appear in the upper right corner of the screen, and you do not need to create an account to use it. Since the plugin works within the Internet browser, it is the only place where you can use it.
It works, more or less, the same as Grammarly. When you write a text, the Language Tool will keep an eye on whether you make spelling or grammar mistakes. When you make a mistake, it will be underlined in red, and when you click on the button that will appear, a menu will open in which suggestions for correcting the mistake will be listed.
The Language Tool distinguishes between American and British English and is smart enough to detect that if you set it to check, for example, American English, and write the word in British English, it will suggest to you just change the language. As for the choice of language, we have a really large selection here and the plugin supports over 40 languages.
The quality of corrections is also at a high level and we have never received a really bad suggestion. Keep in mind that the Language Tool is not perfect and although you can use every suggestion, some suggestions are better than others. This should be kept in mind when choosing a suggestion that you are not sure is completely correct.
We Liked the Language Tool as Much as Grammarly
Language Tool is a great program and we liked it as much as Grammarly, and in the free version, it offers more options. It works great and we did not encounter any problems or errors during use, so it receives our recommendation.
