The Google Play Store has a huge number of free exercise apps. Unfortunately, most of them keep the main options locked behind the subscription and are almost unusable until you pay. That’s why we’ve made a list of the top 4 best free Android exercise apps.
The first three apps on this list do not require you to pay at all, while the last app, although free, is better if you pay for it. The reason why we included it is the fact that it has one of the most interesting and original ideas we have ever seen in the exercise application.
FitNotes is a free Android exercise app. There is an application on iOS that is also called FitNotes, but it is an application of another company, which is in no way connected with the application we are writing about here.
FitNotes is one of the best and most popular applications of its kind and for a good reason. In the first place, the application is completely free and does not require registration from the user. The user interface looks outdated and we’ve definitely come across apps that look better, but it’s clean and easy to use, so this isn’t such a big drawback.
When it comes to exercise, FitNotes focuses on bodybuilding and weightlifting. It contains a large number of already prepared exercise plans, which are divided into muscle groups, and also contains the option to add your own exercises. The application tracks the weights and repetitions, and if you make a mistake during the exercise, you can easily correct it in the application.
In addition to lifting weights, you can also monitor cardio training, body weight, and body fat percentage. A handy option that FitNotes contains is that you can back up data from the app to Google Drive and Dropbox, so if you change or lose your phone, you can easily restore it.
FitNotes is a great app and if you want to focus on weightlifting you will hardly find a better option.
Nike Run Club
Nike Run Club is a free exercise app available for Android and iOS that focuses on running. It seems to us that of all the types of exercise apps, the ones that focus on running have the most competition. The reason why we chose Nike Run Club is the fact that this application is completely free and nothing is locked behind the subscription, which is the case with most applications of this type.
Nike Run Club has an interesting way in which it tries to motivate its users to persevere and do their best during training, and that is that the application resembles a video game. In addition to the usual training plans, users will be offered challenges, which when completed, you will receive a badge that you can brag to your friends. There are also rankings, so you can compete with other users of the application.
An option that we especially liked is the audio trainers that you can listen to while jogging and that will give you tips on proper posture while running, types of training, and much more.
One criticism we have is that the Nike Run Club app is sometimes unstable, so it happens that progress during running is not saved or the app freezes or shuts down. We hope that these errors will be corrected soon because this is really one of the best applications of its kind, and completely free at that.

7 Minute Workout
7 Minute Workout is a free exercise app available for Android and iOS. As its name suggests, the app focuses on short, seven-minute workouts and is suitable for anyone just starting to exercise and those who don’t have time for longer workouts.
What we liked the most and which, we are sure, will be of great importance to all beginners is the fact that for each training there is a video tutorial that will explain in detail how the exercise is performed and which muscle groups are exercised.
The application is easy to use, and the user interface is beautiful and modern. The application also contains options such as calendars, reminders, challenges, and more. If you are just starting to exercise and do not know how to perform the exercises properly, this is the application for you.
Android and iOS
Zombies, Run! is a free exercise app available for Android and iOS. Conceptually, this is without a doubt the most interesting application on this list. The application focuses on running, which, we must admit, is not the most exciting activity. To break the monotony of running, the application turns this into a game in which, as you probably already guessed, you run away from zombies.
First of all, you need headphones to use the app. They are not necessary and the application will work without them, but then you will miss out on the story, which is very interesting and which dictates the pace at which you run. A phenomenal idea, which was well realized.
Zombies, Run! is the only app on this list where, if you like it, we would recommend you buy the premium (paid) version. By purchasing the premium version, you get access to new stories, of which there are over 200 of them, and a mini-game in which you build a base, and gather resources for construction by running.
