Zoom Image – Zooming Images in the Browser

When you search for images using Google or any other service or read an article on a website that contains images, you can open those images in a new tab and zoom them there. However, if you don’t want to keep opening the images in a new tab, you can enlarge them by zooming in on the whole web page, but this is not the best solution.

Zoom Image is a free plugin for the Mozilla Firefox web browser that will allow you to zoom in on any image without having to open it first.

How Does Zoom Image Work?

When you install Zoom Image in your Internet browser, you will notice that its icon did not appear in the upper right corner of the screen, in the place reserved for plugin icons. The reason for this is the fact that this plugin does not contain a user interface, nor does it have any settings.

You use the plugin by placing the mouse cursor over the image you want to zoom, right-clicking on the image, and using the mouse wheel you can zoom in or out. In addition to this, you can freely place zoomed images anywhere within the browser, and you can zoom in as many images as you want without opening any of them.

This is handy when browsing, for example, photo galleries and when you want to take a closer look at a thumbnail. Since you don’t have to open the image in a separate tab, you can view a large number of images quickly and easily this way.

The only drawback of Zoom Image is that when you zoom in on images, especially thumbnails, their quality will be quite poor. The reason for this is that when you zoom in on an image, you are not zooming on the original image, but the image that is currently shown on the web page, which is often of a lower resolution than the original image.
